Coachchem Laboratory Story | Episode Eight:The structural secrets behind the simple yet effective Ceramide 3
、Ceramide NP has the effects of moisturizing the skin, strengthening the skin barrier, and relieving skin dryness. It includes two structures: Ceramide 3 and Ceramide 3B.
、Ceramide 3 CAS number: 100403-19-8, Ceramide 3B CAS number: 178436-06-1. Both are registered as "Ceramide NP" in cosmetic ingredient lists.
、Ceramide 3 is derived from the acylation reaction of stearic acid (or its derivatives) with phytosphingosine. Ceramide 3B is derived from the acylation reaction of oleic acid (or its derivatives) with phytosphingosine. Ceramide 3B has an additional unsaturated double bond compared to Ceramide 3, with the rest of the structure being the same, and both have similar effects.
、Ceramide 3B has better solubility than Ceramide 3, making it more favorable for formula applications. The Ceramide NP on the market mainly refers to Ceramide 3B.
、Using pure Ceramide 3 or 3B directly in formulas presents significant challenges, so it is recommended to use it in encapsulated form.
